Menton as a hiking base
Most visitors come for beaches and the colourful old town, then discover that Menton is also one of the Riviera's most convenient walking bases. Within minutes of the seafront, routes climb into olive groves, pine slopes, cliffs and viewpoints over France, Monaco and Italy.
Sentier des Douaniers: the coastal border walk
Difficulty: easy. Duration: 1-2 hours. Start from Garavan for a scenic customs officers' path near the Italian border, with constant Mediterranean views, rocky coves and quieter sections away from traffic.
This is the best first route if you want strong scenery without a hard climb.

What to bring and when to go
Even short Mediterranean walks need preparation: comfortable shoes, water, sun protection, a light windproof layer, offline maps and enough phone battery. In summer, start early or late; for the best hiking conditions, spring and autumn are usually stronger than peak heat.
