Old town colour and height
Menton is compact enough to collect many different photos in half a day: coloured old-town streets, staircases, sea views, gardens and the quieter lines of Port de Garavan. Most of the best spots are walkable from central apartments, so keep your camera or phone light.
Start in the old town and climb Les Rampes Saint-Michel slowly. From here you get the classic Menton image: pastel facades, church towers and pieces of sea framed by stairs and railings. Try straight lines up the steps, side angles from landings and roof views towards the harbour.
Continue higher to the Cimetière du Vieux Château for panoramic views over the bay and Italian border. Morning light is softer; closer to sunset you get warmer tones and longer shadows. Move along the paths to include the marina, Cap Martin or Plage des Sablettes below.

Gardens and details
If you enjoy plants and textures, add one garden stop after checking opening hours. Jardin Botanique Val Rahmeh gives dense, almost jungle-like corners, large leaves, flowers and shaded benches for close-ups and calm vertical shots.
Jardin Serre de la Madone, farther inland, is quieter and more structured, with terraces, water features and a slower feel that suits detail photography. Garden hours and entry conditions change, so treat gardens as flexible additions rather than the only anchor of the day.

Seafront lines and Promenade du Soleil
Back at sea level, Promenade du Soleil is the simplest place to collect Menton's coastal moods. Morning brings clear water light, joggers and dog walkers; evening brings silhouettes, warm tones and reflections on the bay.
Use the curve of the promenade, lampposts and palm trees as leading lines. Plage des Sablettes and the old port are ideal for the postcard skyline: from the beach, put the sea in the foreground; from the port, use boats, masts and reflections.

Port de Garavan and quieter corners
Walking east towards Port de Garavan changes the rhythm. The marina is quieter than the central seafront, with boats, masts and pontoons you can use to frame the old town in the distance. From the far side, Menton rises differently above the curve of the bay.
The streets and staircases above Garavan offer more intimate details: shutters, balcony plants, narrow alleys and glimpses of sea between houses. It is a good area to wander without a strict plan if you like textures more than wide scenes.

Beyond Menton: Monaco, Nice, sea and mountains
If you want to expand your photo map, Monaco and Nice are easy day or half-day trips by train. Monaco gives harbour, the Rock and Casino-area city-by-the-sea images; Nice gives Promenade des Anglais, old-town alleys and market scenes around Cours Saleya.
If you are comfortable on the water, a boat or yacht outing gives a very different angle on Menton, Cap Martin and the coast, with hills behind the town. In the other direction, short trips into hill villages above Menton offer stone houses, narrow streets and balcony-style sea views.
Whichever combination you choose, plan one or two key spots for sunrise or sunset and keep the rest of the day flexible. That is usually enough for a strong photo set without turning the whole trip into a checklist.
