Fishing in Menton: shore fishing, boat trips and local rules

Menton can work for a quiet shore session, a family boat outing or a more technical charter. But a point that looks open is not automatically a legal or safe place to cast: swimming areas, ports, harbour entrances, divers, boat routes, protected zones and local signs always take priority.

Since 12 February 2026, recreational anglers aged 16 and over in the French Mediterranean must register every 12 months through the free RecFishing application, whatever species they target. The eastern Garavan side and the coast toward Roquebrune-Cap-Martin can offer more open-water context than central bathing beaches. In summer, early morning, late evening and off-season periods are generally more realistic than busy daytime beaches. Never cast across swimmers, mooring lines or harbour traffic.

Bluefin tuna is a separate case: vessel authorisation, seasonal rules, catch-and-release or retention status, marking and declarations must be confirmed with a professional operator. Do not assume a normal boat rental is equipped or authorised for specialised fishing.

The Roya and Bevera valleys offer a different kind of trip. Freshwater fishing requires the appropriate carte de peche and local season, section and association checks. Plan it as a separate mountain excursion, especially if weather or road conditions are variable.
