LGBTQ+ guide to Menton and the French Riviera: beaches, bars, Pride and local life

Menton for a relaxed seaside stay, Nice for LGBTQ+ nightlife and culture: a practical guide to venues, beaches, events and the journey home.

LGBTQ+Nice nightlifeQueer culture

A quiet base, a wider Riviera

The French Riviera has a long history of attracting artists, unconventional thinkers, international travellers and people looking for somewhere they can feel a little more themselves.

Today, its LGBTQ+ scene is concentrated mainly in Nice, with an established network of bars, clubs, cultural events, community organisations and Pride celebrations.

Menton offers something different.

Rather than a busy nightlife scene, it's a relaxed Mediterranean town where you can spend your days swimming, exploring colourful streets, enjoying long lunches and visiting nearby destinations.

For LGBTQ+ visitors, that combination can work rather well.

Stay somewhere peaceful, enjoy Menton's beaches and restaurants, then take the train to Nice for an evening out or a major event.

Monaco adds another dimension, with a smaller but increasingly visible LGBTQ+ community.

This guide explains what actually exists, where to go and what to check before making plans.

1. Where should LGBTQ+ visitors go on the French Riviera?

Our recommendation: For travellers who want both a relaxing Mediterranean holiday and access to LGBTQ+ nightlife, Menton makes a good base, provided you're happy to travel to Nice for specialised venues.

If nightlife is your main reason for visiting, staying in central Nice may be more convenient.

1. Where should LGBTQ+ visitors go on the French Riviera?
DestinationLGBTQ+ sceneBest forWhat to expect
MentonNo dedicated permanent venue confirmedCouples, beaches, relaxed holidaysQuiet coastal base with easy regional connections
NiceEstablished LGBTQ+ bars, clubs and communityNightlife, Pride, dating, cultureThe region's most developed LGBTQ+ scene
MonacoSmall but increasingly visible communityCultural events, social gatheringsOccasional Pride events, limited dedicated nightlife
Èze and Cap-d'AilBeaches with historical LGBTQ+ associationsCoastal scenery, naturist interestsRocky coves, limited facilities and difficult access
CannesPeriodic queer cultural programmingFilm and cultural eventsSpecific events rather than a large permanent scene

2. Menton: a quieter LGBTQ+ holiday destination

Menton doesn't have the same visible LGBTQ+ nightlife infrastructure as Nice.

As of October 2026, we couldn't independently confirm any permanently operating LGBTQ+-specific bar, nightclub or community centre within Menton itself.

That doesn't mean LGBTQ+ travellers should avoid the town.

It simply means Menton offers a different kind of holiday.

The appeal is its waterfront, colourful old town, gardens, restaurants and relaxed atmosphere.

What to do as a couple

Spend the morning at Les Sablettes, explore the old-town streets and enjoy lunch overlooking the Mediterranean.

Walk along Promenade du Soleil in the evening, visit the covered market or take a coastal excursion.

There is no need to organise your whole stay around LGBTQ+-specific venues to enjoy the destination.

Where to stay

A central apartment can be particularly practical.

Look for accommodation within walking distance of the seafront and Menton's main railway station if you expect to make frequent trips to Nice or Monaco.

For couples, an apartment with a kitchen and a comfortable living area also offers the flexibility to enjoy quieter evenings between excursions.

Before booking, check the property's actual location, amenities and guest policies rather than relying solely on broad claims of being “gay-friendly”.

Are there Pride events in Menton?

We couldn't verify a regularly recurring Menton Pride parade or dedicated annual LGBTQ+ festival.

For major LGBTQ+ celebrations, Nice and Monaco offer better-documented possibilities.

Check the current regional calendar rather than assuming a Menton event will take place each year.

3. Nice: the centre of LGBTQ+ nightlife

Nice has the most established LGBTQ+ scene near Menton.

Its main venues are spread across three relatively compact areas:

Old Nice: Bars and late-night establishments around Rue Droite, Rue Francis Gallo and Rue Raoul Bosio.

The city centre: Clubs and bars around Place Masséna and the surrounding streets.

The Port and Garibaldi district: LGBTQ+ bars, creative venues and relaxed evening meeting places.

You don't need to visit every venue in one night.

Choose somewhere that suits your preferred atmosphere.

4. LGBTQ+ bars in Nice: where to start the evening

Ramdam Bar

Address: 3 Rue Lascaris, Nice

Ramdam is a combined bar, shop, exhibition space and music venue with an explicit LGBTQIA+ identity.

It's a good starting point if you enjoy creative environments, art and socialising rather than immediately heading to a nightclub.

The Nice tourism office includes it in the Nice Rainbow Côte d'Azur programme.

English and Spanish are listed among the languages spoken.

Best for: Early evenings, queer culture, meeting friends and occasional events.

Check its current programme and opening hours before travelling.

Le Swing

Address: 10 Rue Defly, Nice

Le Swing combines a bar atmosphere with entertainment.

The tourism office describes gay-oriented evenings, cabaret, karaoke and dinner shows.

Its recurring programme makes it a useful option for visitors who want something more than an ordinary drinks-only bar.

Best for: Cabaret, karaoke, entertainment and an energetic evening.

Coco Bar

Address: 3 Rue Droite, Old Nice

Coco Bar is an LGBTQ+-friendly bar in the heart of Old Nice.

Its location makes it convenient for a drink after exploring the historic centre or before visiting another nightlife venue.

Best for: Casual drinks and starting an evening in Old Nice.

Rainbow Bar

Address: 9 Rue Bonaparte, Nice

Rainbow Bar is a restaurant and tapas bar in the lively port-side district.

It can be a good choice if you'd prefer to combine food and drinks before heading somewhere louder.

Best for: A relaxed evening, tapas and socialising near the port.

Le Couloir

Address: 1 Rue Alberti, Nice

Le Couloir is one of Nice's longstanding gay bars.

It's located in the city centre, within convenient reach of other nightlife venues.

Best for: Traditional gay-bar atmosphere and late-evening drinks.

Other places worth checking

Mon Amour Bar, La Cave Wilson and other venues appear in the city's current LGBTQ+ nightlife listings.

The scene changes over time, so check the official tourism directory or the venue's own recent announcements before making a special trip.

A bar being listed as LGBTQ+-friendly doesn't necessarily mean it caters exclusively to one group.

5. Nightclubs and late-night entertainment

If you're interested in dancing, Nice provides considerably more options than Menton or Monaco.

Le Glam

Address: 6 Rue Eugène Emanuel, Nice

Le Glam is one of the Riviera's best-known gay and LGBTQ+-friendly nightclubs.

Its programming includes DJs, themed parties, drag performances and shows.

The Nice tourism office lists regular late-night opening on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, generally from midnight until 5 a.m.

Best for: Weekend dancing, drag performances and a lively club atmosphere.

Check the individual night's programme and admission charge before travelling.

L'Oméga Club

Address: 8 Passage Émile Négrin, Nice

L'Oméga Club is another established LGBTQ+-oriented nightlife venue.

The programme includes electronic music, guest DJs and themed parties.

Current nightlife listings describe regular Thursday-to-Sunday activity, although specific event times and admission prices vary.

Best for: Electronic music, dancing and club events.

Le Six

Address: 6 Rue Raoul Bosio, Old Nice

Le Six is a longstanding gay night bar and club in Vieux Nice.

Its atmosphere is generally more intimate than a large nightclub.

Programmes can include DJs, karaoke and themed evenings.

Best for: Late-night drinks, music and a smaller club setting.

Le Klubber

Address: 14 Rue Benoît Bunico, Old Nice

Le Klubber is associated with after-hours nightlife.

It's not necessarily the best place to begin an evening. Its role is more often to continue the party after other venues close.

Check the current programme, admission policy and exact opening times before visiting.

Adults-only venues

Nice also has adult-oriented gay establishments, including sauna and cruising venues.

These are separate from ordinary LGBTQ+-friendly bars and dance clubs.

They may operate age restrictions, specific admission policies and house rules.

If you're interested in this category, consult a current specialist venue directory and the establishment's official information. Don't assume that every LGBTQ+ venue provides the same type of experience.

6. Major LGBTQ+ events on the French Riviera

Nice's LGBTQ+ calendar extends beyond nightlife.

There are Pride celebrations, queer cinema, drag shows, community gatherings and cultural events.

Nice Pink Parade

Usually held: Summer, with exact dates announced annually.

The Pink Parade is Nice's principal Pride march.

The 2026 edition took place on Saturday, 11 July, with a route through central Nice and along the waterfront.

The event brings together LGBTQ+ communities, allies and local organisations.

It is both a celebration and a public demonstration of visibility and equality.

If you're planning a future trip specifically for Pride, confirm the next official date before booking transport or accommodation.

In&Out Nice: queer film festival

Typical period: Spring.

Organised by Les Ouvreurs, In&Out is an established queer cinema festival.

The 18th edition ran from 23 April to 4 May 2026.

The programme included feature films, documentaries, short films, discussions, exhibitions and cultural events.

This is an excellent choice for visitors more interested in LGBTQ+ culture than nightlife.

The organiser also runs related film and cultural initiatives beyond the main festival.

Official website:https://lesouvreurs.com/inout-nice/

Lou Queernaval

Typical period: During the Nice Carnival season, subject to confirmation.

Lou Queernaval is a distinctive LGBTQ+ carnival celebration associated with Nice's wider Carnival programme.

It's one of the most unusual queer cultural events on the French Riviera.

The event combines carnival traditions with drag, music, performances and celebration.

The French national tourism website lists a proposed 26 February 2027 edition, explicitly subject to confirmation.

Check the official programme before booking around that date.

Nice Rainbow Festival and community events

The Centre LGBTQIA+ Côte d'Azur organises social, cultural and community activities, including Nice Rainbow Festival programming.

These events are particularly interesting if you want to connect with the local community rather than simply visit nightlife venues.

Their dates vary, so follow the centre's current calendar.

Dolly Party and themed evenings

Dolly Party is another name associated with Nice's LGBTQ+ celebration calendar.

Alongside established festivals, individual venues organise themed evenings, drag performances, cabaret and seasonal parties.

These aren't always held on identical dates every year.

For example, Nice's official October 2026 calendar includes a multi-venue Bal des Licornes Halloween evening on 31 October and further themed events in November and December.

Planning event trips from Menton

7. Upcoming LGBTQ+ events: late 2026

If you're visiting towards the end of 2026, the Nice tourism office currently lists the following dated events.

Dates are based on the tourism office's published calendar as of 27 October 2026.

Admission charges, access rules and exact starting times should be confirmed with the organisers.

For future dates, use theofficial Nice LGBTQ+ event calendar.

8. LGBTQ+ beaches near Menton and Nice

The coastline has several beaches with historical or contemporary associations with gay visitors.

But a gay-popular beach, a naturist beach and an officially designated LGBTQ+ beach are three different things.

Don't confuse their social reputation with legal access rules.

Coco Beach, Nice

Location: Cap de Nice, east of Port Lympia.

Coco Beach is a rocky coastal bathing area that appears in contemporary LGBTQ+ travel directories as popular with gay visitors.

It's not an exclusively LGBTQ+ beach.

You can expect rocky platforms, access to the sea and a more natural atmosphere than the large central pebble beaches.

Take care on wet rocks and during rough conditions.

Best for: Travellers who enjoy rocky coves and a mixed local beach atmosphere.

Castel Beach area, Nice

Location: Eastern end of Nice's central waterfront, below Castle Hill.

The public beach area beside Castel Plage has a longstanding association with gay beachgoers, according to specialist travel guides.

It remains a mixed public beach.

Don't confuse the public beach section with the private Castel Plage establishment, which has its own facilities and admission arrangements.

Best for: Visitors who want a central Nice beach with easy access to restaurants and nightlife.

Saint-Laurent-d'Èze

Location: Between Èze-sur-Mer and Cap-d'Ail.

The Saint-Laurent-d'Èze coastal area is frequently mentioned in gay and naturist beach directories, particularly for its association with male visitors.

However, no current municipal authorisation for naturism could be independently confirmed for this guide.

Access can involve narrow or rocky coastal paths.

Don't assume that all parts of the beach are clothing-optional.

Best for: Experienced visitors willing to verify the current local rules and access conditions.

Les Pissarelles, Cap-d'Ail

Les Pissarelles has a documented naturist tradition and is also mentioned in LGBTQ+ beach directories.

Regional naturist sources classify it as naturisme toléré, meaning naturism is reported as tolerated rather than formally authorised.

The access is steep, the shore is rocky and there are no dependable toilets, showers or lifeguard facilities.

This isn't an easy-access beach.

Best for: Experienced naturist beachgoers who understand the practical and legal limitations.

What about beaches in Menton?

We couldn't verify a dedicated LGBTQ+ beach in Menton itself.

Les Sablettes, Casino and the other public beaches are ordinary shared public spaces, not officially LGBTQ+-designated areas.

For more information on naturist locations and their legal status, see ourAzurMenton beach guides.

9. Monaco: a small but growing LGBTQ+ community

Monaco doesn't have a large, established gay nightlife district comparable to Nice.

However, its LGBTQ+ visibility has increased through community organising.

Mon'Arc En Ciel

Mon'Arc En Ciel is an LGBTQ+ association in Monaco that works on visibility, equality, inclusion and community support.

It organises discussions, gatherings and social initiatives.

Official website:https://www.monarcenciel.com/

Monaco Pride

In 2026, Monaco Pride took place on 8 July at Stars of Monaco on Quai Antoine Ier.

Organised by Mon'Arc En Ciel, the event was a social gathering focused on equality, inclusion and solidarity.

It was free to attend, with drinks available for purchase.

This was a specific event, not evidence of a permanent nightly Pride programme.

For future editions, check directly with Mon'Arc En Ciel.

Are there gay clubs in Monaco?

We couldn't verify an established, permanently operating LGBTQ+-specific nightclub in the Principality.

Visitors seeking dedicated gay bars, clubbing and drag entertainment will generally have more options in Nice.

LGBTQ+ rights in Monaco

Monaco and France have different legal systems.

Monaco recognises civil cohabitation arrangements (contrat civil de solidarité), but these are not marriage equality or a guarantee of the same family-law rights as in France.

Legal recognition and anti-discrimination protections are important distinctions, especially for travellers considering longer stays or relocation.

For current legal developments, consult ILGA-Europe and Monégasque official sources.

10. Community spaces beyond nightlife

Not every LGBTQ+ traveller wants to spend their evenings in clubs.

Nice also has organisations offering cultural events, social activities, community support and useful local connections.

Centre LGBTQIA+ Côte d'Azur

Location: Rue Cathy Richeux, Nice.

The Centre LGBTQIA+ Côte d'Azur is a significant regional community organisation.

It brings together multiple associations and provides social, cultural and support activities.

The centre also runs a community bar and organises public events.

Published community bar sessions include Monday early evenings and Saturday afternoons.

The centre's public services and activities have different opening schedules, so check the programme before visiting.

Official information:https://www.centrelgbt06.fr/

Les Ouvreurs

Les Ouvreurs organises the In&Out queer film festival and other cultural programmes, including film screenings and public discussions.

It's a good reference for visitors interested in queer cinema, art and community culture.

Website:https://lesouvreurs.com/

LGBTQ+ sports and social groups

Organisations associated with the Nice LGBTQIA+ Centre include groups such as Front Runners Nice.

These can be useful for travellers staying several weeks who want social contact through sport or community activity.

Check whether participation is open to visitors and whether registration is required.

11. A practical LGBTQ+ weekend based in Menton

You don't need to spend the entire trip commuting.

A good itinerary balances Menton's slower pace with a planned evening or event in Nice.

Friday: arrive and enjoy Menton

Check into your accommodation, walk along Promenade du Soleil and enjoy dinner in the old town or near the waterfront.

Keep the evening relaxed.

If you're planning a late night in Nice the following day, there's no need to rush straight into clubbing.

Saturday: Nice, culture and nightlife

Take the train to Nice.

Spend the afternoon exploring Old Nice, the Promenade des Anglais or one of the coastal bathing areas.

For an early drink, consider Coco Bar or Ramdam.

Choose dinner near the old town or port.

If you want clubbing, check Le Glam, L'Oméga Club or Le Six for that night's programme.

Plan the journey back to Menton in advance.

Important: Late-night clubs can stay open long after the last convenient regional train. Check the timetable and consider a taxi, private transfer or overnight stay in Nice if necessary.

Sunday: slow Riviera morning

Have breakfast in Menton.

Spend time at Les Sablettes, explore the market or enjoy a relaxed coastal walk.

A visit to Monaco can be added if you prefer sightseeing.

The idea is to enjoy both aspects of the trip: lively Nice and slower Menton.

12. When should LGBTQ+ visitors come?

Our recommendation

April–May: Strong choice for travellers interested in queer culture, particularly around the In&Out festival.

July: Best period to investigate if you want Pride events and busy summer nightlife.

September: Excellent for a relaxed Menton holiday with occasional trips to Nice.

October–December: Worth checking for themed parties, drag shows and the year-round LGBTQ+ cultural programme.

The major events don't fall on identical dates every year, so confirm the programme before booking.

12. When should LGBTQ+ visitors come?
SeasonWhat to expectBest for
WinterMore local nightlife, quieter beaches, occasional cultural programmesCity breaks, clubs, Carnival
SpringQueer cinema, comfortable sightseeing weatherIn&Out festival, culture, couples
SummerPride events, beach weather, international visitorsNightlife, beaches, major celebrations
AutumnComfortable coastal weather early in the season, themed events laterLonger stays, cultural and social events

13. Practical travel and safety advice

Public affection

In France, same-sex marriage is legal, and LGBTQ+ couples commonly visit the Riviera.

Nevertheless, individual experiences vary.

Nice has a more visibly established LGBTQ+ social scene than smaller surrounding towns.

No destination can guarantee that every encounter will be free from prejudice.

Use the same reasonable awareness that you would when travelling anywhere unfamiliar.

Transgender and non-binary travellers

Don't assume that every venue listed as a “gay bar” necessarily offers the same environment or policies for trans and non-binary guests.

The Nice Rainbow programme provides one useful indicator of an establishment's stated commitment to inclusive hospitality.

For community-specific advice and services, contact the Centre LGBTQIA+ Côte d'Azur.

Photography and privacy

Respect other visitors' privacy in bars, clubs, community events and naturist areas.

Ask permission before photographing people, particularly at private gatherings and venues where guests may not wish to be publicly identified.

Night transport

Regional trains make daytime travel between Menton, Monaco and Nice relatively straightforward.

Night travel requires more preparation.

Check the last train, any disruption notices and available taxis before heading out.

Avoid assuming that late-night public transport runs at the same frequency as daytime services.

Emergencies and support

The European emergency number is 112.

For discrimination or harassment in France, SOS homophobie provides information and support.

Website:https://www.sos-homophobie.org/

The Centre LGBTQIA+ Côte d'Azur can also direct visitors towards relevant local organisations and resources.

Plan your return journey

14. How to check current LGBTQ+ events and venues

Nightlife changes more quickly than most travel attractions.

A club can change its weekly programme, a venue may move and a Pride event may announce new dates only a few months beforehand.

Before travelling, use several complementary sources.

Nice Côte d'Azur Tourist Office: Best for the official Nice Rainbow directory and listed public events.

The venue's own website or social media: Best for tonight's programme, admission policies and actual opening times.

Centre LGBTQIA+ Côte d'Azur: Best for local community events, organisations and support.

Les Ouvreurs: Best for queer cinema and cultural programming.

Mon'Arc En Ciel: Best for Monaco's LGBTQ+ community calendar.

Specialist LGBTQ+ travel directories: Useful for discovering places, but verify the operating status and avoid relying on outdated listings.

An old blog describing a club as “legendary” isn't proof that it still operates.

Final thoughts: two different sides of the Riviera

An LGBTQ+ holiday on the eastern French Riviera doesn't have to follow a single formula.

You can spend a quiet week in Menton, enjoying the Mediterranean and exploring the region together.

You can visit Nice for cocktails, drag shows, clubbing, Pride celebrations or queer cinema.

You can discover Monaco's growing LGBTQ+ community or explore the coastal scenery around Èze and Cap-d'Ail.

And you can combine all of those experiences without changing accommodation every few days.

The key is understanding what each destination genuinely offers.

Menton provides the relaxed base.

Nice provides the largest LGBTQ+ scene.

Monaco offers a smaller but increasingly visible community.

Choose the balance that suits your holiday, check upcoming events and enjoy the Riviera on your own terms.
