Theatre, opera and performing arts near Menton: the complete guide

Many visitors come to the Riviera for beaches and sunshine. Others come for something the Cote d'Azur quietly does exceptionally well: opera, ballet, theatre, musicals and live performance.

The advantage of staying in Menton is that Monaco, Nice and Sanremo are close enough for a planned evening, while Menton stays quieter when you return after the performance.

Menton's scene is compact. Le Lavoir Théâtre is the local address for intimate French-language theatre, comedy and independent productions. Palais de l'Europe is not a theatre in the strict sense, but it hosts concerts, touring shows, children's performances, festival events and exhibitions.

For classical music, Festival de Musique de Menton is better treated as a separate event plan because many concerts use the basilica and outdoor heritage settings.

Monaco is the strongest performing-arts option from Menton. Opéra de Monte-Carlo is the must-check address for opera and recitals. Théâtre Princesse Grace is better for contemporary drama and polished French-language theatre.
